Lover Eternal by JR Ward #bookreview

Title: Lover Eternal
Series: The Black Dagger Brotherhood #2
Author: JR Ward
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: March 2006
Source: Purchased

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast, Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant on Rhage's protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage's intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves...

I enjoyed this story but I felt there was something missing compared to the first book (Dark Lover) in the series. It was hard to see why Rhage was attracted to Mary and vice versa, plus with the bleak future that Mary has there wasn't enough sadness coming through the pages. Despite that, I had to keep reading and find out what their futures held and where the journey for the Brotherhood was heading.
Good action scenes, characters that are intriguing and a vile age old enemy which are great hooks to get you reading the following books in the series.

Rogue by Julie Kagawa #BookReview

Title: Rogue
Series: Talon #2
Author: Julie Kagawa
Genre: Young Adult
Published: April 2015
Source: Purchased

Deserter. Traitor. Rogue.

Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can’t forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed her—Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragonslaying Order of St. George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so, he’d signed his own death warrant.

Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the Order’s headquarters. With assassins after them and Ember’s own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the underground battle between Talon and St. George.

A reckoning is brewing and the secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day…or start an all-out war?

Plenty of action in this second instalment in the Talon series, however I still find that the story-line moves a little too slow for my liking. But there is enough going on through the different points of view to keep you interested.
The love triangle intensifies and the emotion is strong. It's one of the better love triangles I've read, with it not being the central focus but simmering on the sidelines waiting to be addressed.
As it's part of a series the story continues but it feels finished for now. Definitely worth a read. You need to read book 1 - Talon before picking this one up, so give it a try too.

You can find my quickie review of Talon here on Goodreads.

Books I'm loving right now!

Hey one and all!

There are 2 series of books that I'm completely hooked on at the moment. My poor kindle hasn't had much use as I just have to have these books in paperback. These are:

The Talon series by Julie Kagawa and The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward.

I don't know why it has taken me so long to pick these up, but I'm so very glad that I have.

I'm currently reading Soldier by Julie Kagawa which is the third book in the Talon saga. Never did I ever think that I would look at dragon's as being cool. Vampires you now have a run for your money. Ha!

My next read in The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is also book 3 and I'm waiting very impatiently patiently for it to arrive. ๐Ÿ˜†

I will have some reviews coming through for those books once I have devoured them. So stay tuned.

That's all from me for now. Take it easy and enjoy your Easter long weekend, however you choose to spend it.

Hello and Welcome

Hi and welcome to my new blog site Shaz Loves Books.

You may or may not be aware that I am the same Sharon who previously owned the book blog site Sharon's Book Nook! I have recently closed that blog down in favour of a cheaper and therefore much more relaxed option. Hence why you've now found me on Blogger.

I intend to once again share my book reviews and love for books with you in a much more easy going way. My reviews will not be long winded, as I don't read long reviews myself, so why would I write them? So I will tell you what I like about a book and dislike and whether or not it's worth a read.

I'm not open to book review requests or blog tours so please don't ask.

You can find all the reviews that I have completed over the years on my Goodreads and Amazon profiles which can be found via the following links:-

Shaz on Goodreads
Shaz on Amazon

I have a tumblr blog that I've posted a few reviews to as well but I will be moving those reviews over to this blog. If you'd like to check it out it can be found at shazlovesbooks.tumblr.com

I hope that you'll pop by and say "hi" from time to time as I love a good chat.

Happy reading!
